HISTORICAL FLEET

The origins of the Alkon group of companies can be dated back to the beginning of the 1900’s and has traditionally been controlled by the Alexandrou family. The long and diverse history of the family and group can be traced to intertwine with the migration of world centers of trade throughout the 20th century. Originating in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea, early family interest in trade and manufacturing at the turn of the century led the Aegean based family to expand their network of interests to the bustling French port of Marseille. This initial presence soon led to flourishing trade with the colonies, and subsequently physical presence of the family in Kenya and Madagascar. Meanwhile, the other side of the family remained in Greece and expanded into the Banking and Shipping industries, founding a commercial bank on the island of Andros, and financing the acquisition of vessels for their own and third party interests.
